Dark patterns are a "manipulative" and unlawful design trick, examples of which include pre-checked boxes, hard to find and read disclosures, and confusing cancellation policies, the FTC said. When it included disclaimers or clarifying information, the text was in small, light font and overlooked by consumers, the FTC claimed. In addition to sweepstakes, PCH also sells merchandise and magazines.

It may have helped Google to make a decision that many other East Coast employers did not that California-based companies have more experience with hazardous air quality issues. But one thing is certain: companies and workers should expect these wildfire-related air quality issues to return. The decisions companies make on these matters have significant legal and employee satisfaction ramifications, especially given the potential for future air quality issues. Air quality is becoming a broad employee health issue Between Covid, wildfires, radon and other environmental issues, there's been an increased awareness among employers and commercial real estate firms of the importance of air quality. Broadly speaking, companies need to be asking whether the systems they have in place are "adequate to ensure protection and safe air during very bad air quality events," he said.

Nevertheless, in 2007, the Blackstone Group bought Mr. Zell’s firm — then known as Equity Office Properties Trust — for $39 billion. A Deal Comes With DebtLike many newspapers, the Tribune properties were hemorrhaging advertising revenues and readers to the internet. The company had been on the auction block for months when Mr. Zell — insisting that his interests were purely economic, not editorial — offered $34 a share in a complex transaction to take the company private under an employee stock-ownership plan. In that highly leveraged buyout, the debt was to be paid off almost entirely by cash generated by the company’s continuing operations. The new corporation was exempt from federal income taxes, and the debt was reduced by the sale of Newsday, the Cubs and Wrigley Field.

Gene Seymour Jeremy Freeman/CNNBut history, as it often does, had other ideas for Belafonte, who died April 25 at 96, having lived a long, full life as both entertainer and activist. The times he lived in paved a smoother way for him than the one faced by his mentor and hero Paul Robeson. On the other hand, there was, relatively speaking, only so much Belafonte could do on the entertainment side. Here, as elsewhere in Belafonte’s life, the activism and the entertainment sides of his public life worked in tandem to buttress, offset and enhance the other. Join us on Twitter and FacebookAnd in a gratifying sense, the push-pull of history’s demands worked in Belafonte’s favor as a screen actor.
By now, we should be used to HBO’s series pulling the rug out from beneath our expectations. Still, as more than one pundit observed of Logan’s death, this one shocked more than merely surprised. Not me, though I do miss Brian Cox already because few actors anywhere are as adroit at playing dyspeptic sociopaths. It would be at the very least ironic if “Greg the Egg,” the minion’s minion, stumbled into power as if he tripped on a sidewalk. I’ll say no more on this except to suggest that you all try to remember who in the end won that “Game of Thrones.” It’s not inevitable.
One of the "Central Park Five" mimicked a 1989 full-page ad that Trump placed calling for the death penalty. In the mock ad, posted on Twitter, Salaam referred to Trump's recent indictment and arrest. In the ad, which was posted on Twitter, Yusef Salaam mocked Trump's recent indictment and arrest while imitating the statement Trump advertised in multiple New York newspapers. Salaam was one of five Black and Latino teenagers who were wrongly convicted of the assault and rape of a young white woman in Central Park. Salaam, however, said he ultimately wished Trump "no harm," even though the former president had "effectively called for my death and the death of four other innocent children."

Rep. George Santos hid from constituents who tried to deliver a petition to him on Wednesday. A staffer told the group that Santos was in the building but added that he refused to meet with a "mob," according to the paper. Santos' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last week, they traveled to Capitol Hill to call for the expulsion of their congressman, according to The Jerusalem Post. George Santos of New York will not serve on the two House committees to which he was recently assigned until the investigations into his conduct have concluded, his office said Tuesday. And the voters in Santos' district aren't keen on keeping him around, either, according to a new poll released Tuesday morning. The pollster surveyed 653 voters from Santos' district between Jan. 23 and last Thursday.

Constituent calls to George Santos' local office were redirected to another GOP Congressman. A representative at Santos' office told Insider they don't know why the calls were being forwarded. George Santos, the congressman-elect from New York who's admitted to "embellishing" his résumé, is being investigated by a New York prosecutor. "The numerous fabrications and inconsistencies associated with Congressman-Elect Santos are nothing short of stunning. He said his work included “specialty consulting” for “high net worth individuals.” Santos' company was dissolved in September, which Santos told Semafor was the result of his accountant's turning in late paperwork. In an interview Monday with the New York Post, Santos acknowledged having fabricated details about his background, saying: “My sins here are embellishing my resume. Because I learned my maternal family had a Jewish background I said I was ‘Jew-ish,’” he said.

That's equal to 15.2% of home contracts initiated during the month and similar to the 15.5% canceled in July. If you're considering joining the ranks of those who walk away from a deal in progress, it's important to know whether it will cost you to do so. The amount is usually 1% to 5% of the purchase price but can run as high as 10% depending on the local market. There also can be affordability issues causing buyers to walk away, especially in new construction, said Al Bingham, a mortgage loan officer with Momentum Loans in Sandy, Utah. Buyers "are willing to walk away even if they can qualify because the house payments have gone up," Bingham said.
